WATCH: “Do it yourself”, a new vision for urban design practice


The process of gaining council approval for improving and upgrade public space can be fraught with frustrating bureaucratic run-arounds that are often costly and time- consuming.  This video showcases an interesting approach to making positive changes within urban areas. In many places, like Brooklyn, individuals have taken it upon themselves to instigate what they see to be necessary improvements to their city through “unauthorized” methods. These projects aim to make innovative and civic-minded small changes to improve their community on both social and functional levels. This arises the question, what changes are appropriate and which can become detrimental to a functioning city.
