Mowbray Golf Course

Closed in December 2015, King David Country Club is now being used as a nursery. Sale of the land has not yet been confirmed. Following the closure, the King David and Mowbray Golf Clubs merged in December 2015 due to dwindling numbers at Cape Town’s only Jewish golf club.

Milan is planning to transform 190 000 sqaure metr Milan is planning to transform 190 000 sqaure metres of railyards into new neighbourhoods

Milan today is experiencing a new phase of development which is leading to crucial transformations in the built environment.

The city's railway yards are currently being redeveloped into housing projects. One of 7 railway redevlopments in Milan, the Porta Romana Railway Hub development proposes a conversion of land - aimed at creating a vibrabt neighbourhood for young people.

The Porta Romana terminal is located between the city centre and its surrounds which are undergoing urban regeneration. The site therefore is likely to benefit from its location relative to public and private investment.  The 190 000 square meters of the site will be redeveloped, with 100 000 square meters being used to develop a park and the remainder to be used in constructing the Olympic Village for the Winter Olympics 2026 - to be hosted in Milan-Cortina.

After the hosting of the games, the Olympic Village will be transformed into student and social housing and will house 1000 occupants.

This proposal is both bold and innovative in its vision to re-purpose and redevelop railway yards to create a mixed use and mutli-functional real estate development.

Can South African Cities transform inner city areas in a similar way? How can inner city land use conversions support inclusonary housing developments?
