Great design always starts with a great question. So when it comes to planning the future of Long Street, the starting point cannot be “how do we pedestrianize this space?” but rather “what can this space do for Cape Town?”
Although the culture, spirit and preferences of each city and its habitants are very different, there may still be great value in sharing and implementing translatable ideas between two cities. London may not be able to compete with Cape Town’s weather and scenery, but we’ve narrowed down a list of five great aspects of London that could work just as well in the Mother City.
For most of us, when we’re walking in the city, the safest place to be is on the pavement or sidewalk. However a new movement in urban street design, called ‘Shared Space’, is challenging this kind of thinking.
