After a very long wait with legal challenges, appeals, subcontractor hiccups and many a media statement with the words “coming soon” included (which started to replace actual dates), a number of new MyCiTi routes are scheduled to be launched in November.
According to the City of Cape Town, the routes will be launched over the next two months, which will also see existing minibus-taxi and bus services along these routes being phased out. This, due to the the 12-year vehicle operator contracts signed in September this year.
The routes and launch dates are as follows:
2 NOVEMBER 2013: MyCiTi will start operating in Vredehoek, Oranjezicht, Sea Point (along High Level Road and Beach Road via the V&A Waterfront), Melkbosstrand and Duynefontein.

- 230 Duynefontein – Melkbosstrand
30 NOVEMBER 2013: Two routes will launch between the Silo area of the V&A Waterfront, and over Kloof Nek to Camps Bay. In the Century City area, the existing shuttle service will be replaced by a MyCiTi route from the Century City rail station along Century City Boulevard to Montague Gardens.

“The new routes will take us a step closer to realising our vision of truly integrated transport in Cape Town. We know an integrated transport system is an important step towards more integrated communities. As part of our efforts to build an Inclusive City, our progress in this regard remains critical,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.
New MyCiTi stations – at Queen’s Beach, Omuramba, Royal Ascot, Porterfield, Sandown and Melkbosstrand – will be opened to the public ahead of the routes becoming active, so that the public can buy their myconnect cards and load them with the necessary travel money for their planned journeys.
