How can a shared vision for Durban’s Rivertown Precinct create more vibrant and recognised city centre precinct?
Our Future Cities is currently advising Urban Lime in relation to its regeneration of the Rivertown Precinct. Comprising 6 city blocks and including over 30,000 sqm of space, the precinct is located to the east of the Central Business District in Durban, South Africa between the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre and the iconic beachfront.
Our Future Cities oversaw the national design competition which invited 8 urban design and planning companies to develop a masterplan and is currently supporting research and engagement with key stakeholders.
The competition was won by Ruben Reddy Architects (RRA), who proposed “a new wide pedestrian boulevard, directly linking the ICC to the beachfront – creating a strong visual and walkable connection.”
