How can the forecourt of a public library & community centre play a more active role in the neighbourhood?
The Sea Point Library and Civic Centre, as well as the Ellerton Primary School, constitute a cluster of well-used public facilities that are deeply integrated into their communities. However, the quality of the public realm between them is severely lacking.
Future Cape Town was commissioned to produce a placemaking framework to find solutions to reinvigorate the space and bring it back into the hands of the community. As part of this process, Future Cape Town facilitated a design competition to help reimagine the space and CoA Architects were selected as the winners of the competition.
