How can we transform Durban’s Inner City into a more connected, walkable and integrated space?
The Walkable Connected Durban strategy aims to coordinate efforts between communities and the public private sector actors to create a 13.5km ring of safe and high-quality walking, cycling and public transport routes within the Inner City.
Termed the “The Big O” the strategy is guided by walkability criteria developed considered more appropriate for the South African context.
Each chapter focusses on a precinct proposing a list of projects and interventions to create high-quality sidewalks, streets and routes for walking and cycling, increase security, improve wayfinding and connections to public transport and major amenities.
