The Provenance Auction House was transformed into a unique space to host workshops, lectures, discussions and events which promote collaboration and co-creation in the field of sustainability. Envisioned and initiated by the Netherlands Consulate General in Cape Town, Our Future Cities was approached to play the role of the Local Organising Committee; to co-develop the main programme, manage the communications as well as operate the building and spaces.
It was opened by the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Deputy Mayor of Cape Town and the former Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade.
Our Future Cities joined an experienced team which includes the famous Dutch design company Droog and Programme Director Christine de Baan, who was the director of the strategic DutchDFA program.
The programme also offered free venues and spaces within Department of Design to the public and organisations who support the values of co-creating South Africa through collaboration.
A trade mission from the Netherlands will also took place within Department of Design. This included a delegation of 40 companies with an interest in developing business relationships in South Africa.
The programme was also supported by a local advisory committee which includes Design Indaba Founder Ravi Naidoo; Laurine Platzky, Western Cape Deputy Director-General of Provincial Strategic Management and Richard Perez, Programme Director for World Design Capital 2014.
